Voyages of Time and Place: A Collaborative Approach to Multicultural Education
Voyages of Time and Place presents a collaborative, educational project — documentary video and expanded DVD — between professors of the Visual Arts and Communication Departments at Eastern Connecticut State University. The documentary project, distributed on DVD and accompanied by a curriculum resource guide, features five contemporary Connecticut women of color artists and educators. These artists come from a diverse cultural heritage rooted in the African, Latin American, and Asian Pacific Diaspora, bringing forth artworks that tell the story of their lives and the lives of their ancestors. The project aims to familiarize students with the works of these artists as well as to increase awareness, visibility, representation, and the inclusion of works by contemporary artists of color in educational and arts institutions. It explores the philosophies and values that motivate, inspire, and inform these artists. The documentary accompanying educational material records their cultural legacy.
